According to a study “At Risk: America’s Poor During and After the Great Recession,” published by the University of Indiana, the number of people living in poverty, 16%, is expected to keep rising. This increase is due to the slowness of the recovery. This proportion of the population has increased by an enormous 27% between 2006 and 2010. Hardest hit are those in the 18-34 age group.
The Pew Research Center Survey of 2,048 adults finds that 66 percent of Americans believe that there are either strong or very strong conflicts between the rich and the poor. This is double the number from a similar poll in 2009. Class conflict is increasing.

“Oh Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire…help us to turn them out roofless with their little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated lands…We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love.” Mark Twain, American Author, Humorist and Anti-Imperialist
