Good Reasons to Change the System

Of the 188,413 people in Broome County, 18% live in poverty. 25,405 or15.3% are white, 3,855 or 42.2% are African American and 2,665 are Hispanic/Latino.

Families with female heads of households and children present have a poverty rate of 46.0%

A living wage for one adult, one child household needs to be $19.95 per hour to get that family out of poverty.

For those who have worked all of their lives and are now 65 or older, 8% or 2,496 live below the poverty level.

In the City of Binghamton, 66% of Latino children, 46% of African-American and 41% of white children live in poverty.

When our politicians and heads of job development agencies tell us how hard they are working for us, you know that they are really working for somebody else.
