Do More Guns Help Protect Women? From 2001 to 2012, 6,410 women were murdered by an intimate partner with a gun, which is more than all US the combat deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan during those years combined.
Governor Cuomo and the People of the 52nd NYS Senate District
A year ago when the 52nd District’s State Senator, Tom Libous, was convicted of a felony, there was a special election to select a replacement. A deal was made between the Republican Party and Democratic Governor Cuomo. Cuomo hand selected a Democratic candidate for the vacant seat as did the Republicans. Cuomo chose Barbara Fiala, a person recently retired from her job as the NYS Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, a position she had been appointed to by Cuomo. Fiala had been the Motor Vehicle Commissioner in Broome County for many years before being elected Broome County Executive for two terms.
This annointment of Fiala to run was a set-up. The local Democratic Party members were not consulted. The fix was in. The parties endorsing Fiala, the Democratic and Working Families, provided no money for the Fiala campaign and there was no other support given. Cuomo did not even campaign for his personal selection. All this guaranteed the election of Republican Fred Akshar who was heavily supported by the Republican Party with money and other support. The selection of both candidates by a very few people shows the disdain that these political parties have for the voters of the 52nd District.
The major parties pretend to fight but they don’t really mean it!
Eugene Debs on Trump, Sanders, and Other Saviors from Beyond the Grave
“Too long have workers of the world waited for some Moses to lead them out of bondage. He has not come; he will never come. I would not lead you out if I could; for if you could be led out, you could be led back again. I would have you make up your minds that there is nothing you cannot do for yourselves. You do not need the capitalist. He could not exist an instant without you. You would just begin to live without him.”
Eugene V. Debs, five-time President candidate for the Socialist Party of America, to the International Workers of the World Convention, 1905
